Susanna Flock explores the body’s relationship to its technologically mediated environment and screen culture. Her work investigates categories and phenomena pertaining to the relationship between digital technologies and everyday life, such as the correlation of digital and analogue, presence and absence, belonging and loneliness, and even isolation (however, seen as a condition of a hyper-connected and community-based environment). An essential part of Susanna’s work further concerns research into the internet phenomena mostly materialized in video installations.

The two rooms of Vasulka Kitchen Brno are fluidly functioning exhibition spaces, where short-term exhibitions responding to current events in the field of new media and contemporary art alternate with permanent exhibitions owned or on permanent loan to the association Vasulka Kitchen Brno.

Currently, Vasulka Kitchen Brno is exhibiting two works from the permanent exhibition, Lucifer’s Commission and Light Revisited.

Dvě místnosti Vašulka Kitchen Brno představují fluidně fungující výstavní prostory, kde mezi sebou alternují krátkodobé expozice reagující na aktuální události z oblasti nových médií a současného umění a expozice stálé, jež jsou ve vlastnictví nebo v trvalé výpůjčce spolku Vašulka Kitchen Brno.

Nyní ve Vašulka Kitchen Brno vystavujeme dvě díla ze stálé expozice, tedy Lucifer’s Commission a Light Revisited.

V Galerii Jelení v Praze, jenž je součást Centra pro současné umění Praha, probíhá výstava On Second Thought, kterou kurátoruje Jennifer Helia DeFelice z Vašulka Kitchen Brno.

Výstava On Second Thought se zabývá kontemplativními díly, která existují sama o sobě jako postupně se rozvíjející otázky, jako jakési sondy plynule přecházející od každodenního až k nevšednímu, přičemž využívají technických prostředků jako virtuální haptické cesty vybízející k hlubšímu ponoření, zamyšlení a přehodnocení.

On Second Thought, an exhibition curated by Jennifer Helia DeFelice of Vašulka Kitchen Brno, will open at the Jelení Gallery in Prague, part of the Centre for Contemporary Art Prague.

The exhibition On Second Thought deals with contemplative works that exist in themselves as gradually unfolding questions, as a kind of probes moving seamlessly from the everyday to the extraordinary use of technical means, as virtual haptic journeys inviting deeper immersion, reflection and re-evaluation.

Výstava Sums & Differences v Listasafn Árnesinga-LÁ Art Museum představuje díla Garyho Hilla, Steiny a Woodyho Vasulky. Klade si za cíl představit společné rysy jejich raného experimentování i následné divergence jejich uměleckých postupů, jejich konceptuální, performativní a kontemplativní interpretace fyzických i imateriálních projevů na pozadí tří jedinečných trajektorií.

The exhibition Sums & Differences at Listasafn Árnesinga—LÁ Art Museumbrings together works by Gary Hill, Steina, and Woody Vasulka. It aims to present the commonalities of their earliest explorations and the subsequent divergence of their artistic practices, their conceptual, performative, and contemplative interpretations of the physical and the immaterial, along three unique trajectories.

Série audiovizuálních instalací Hypnagogické cykly je inspirována psychickým fenoménem tzv. hypnagogického stavu vědomí. Prožíváme jej ve chvílích mezi bděním a spánkem, kdy usínáme a pod zavřenými víčky nám plynou disparátní tekuté obrazy a znějí útržky hlasů a ambientních zvuků. Tento stav je vyvolán aktivitami mysli, která se pokouší „porozumět“ procesům, aktivovaných neurologickými změnami doprovázejícími přechod do režimu spánku. Pokud je usínání z nějakého důvodu přerušeno, jistou dobu si takové fantomické obrazy a zvuky usínající zapamatuje.

The series of audiovisual installations Hypnagogic Cycles is inspired by the psychological phenomenon of the so-called hypnagogic state of consciousness. We experience it in the moments between wakefulness and sleep, during the course of falling asleep when various fluid images flow under our closed eyelids accompanied by fragments of speech and apparently ambient sounds. This state is triggered by the brain's trying to ‘understand’ ostensibly random neurological discharges that accompany the transition to sleep.
