Khrystyna Kirik: Borders of Experiment
Khrystyna Kirik is a Ukrainian sound artist and double bass player who specializes in experimental and improvisational music, performance art, theatre and art installations.
Khrystyna accepted the invitation of Vašulka kitchen and Bastl instruments with her solo project, where she explores borders of experimental and improvised music. Utilizing electronic hardware, double bass, voice, field recordings, and handmade sensor-based instruments, she delivers soundscapes that interweave melodies and harmonies, evoking emotions and narratives resonating both heart and mind.
She began her career as a jazz double bassist after studying at the Glier Music Institute in Kyiv, where she majored in jazz. During that period, she explored various music genres, including salsa, folk, funk, classical, avant-garde, and experimental music, expanding her musical horizons. Over the years, she has actively participated in diverse music projects and collaborated with various accomplished musicians, including Satoko Fujii, John Hollenbeck, Michael Abene, and Sam Harris.
