JENA JANG
Jena Jang, a South Korean audiovisual artist based in Prague, combines ancient artistic traditions fluidly with contemporary expression to explore innovative healing methods. She uses vocal improvisation, shouting, microphone feedback and bodily movements combined with DIY synthesizers, self-contained sound devices and amplified ready-made objects. Through these techniques, she develops various methods of sonic detoxification and seeks to overcome and transform negative memories and old traumas.
PASCALL & BOURVILLE
Pascall & Bourville (Kryštof Pátra and Ondřej Merta) do not know anything for certain before their actual performance. Not even if they are going to play. This is also part of improvisation. The instrumentation is determined by a complex algorithm created by AI, where the input data is determined by the weather. Saxophone, clarinet, buchla music easel or banjo and blowing into a pet bottle. A virtuosic solo on an egg slicer or reading passages from books. Pátra's energetic and engaging expressions contrast with the tiredness and unfocusedness of Merta, who seems to be constantly lost. The constant passing and searching brings tension, compassion, tears, and is often followed by deep catharsis. It is the emotional impact on the listener that is so much touted by critics, often in conjunction with the supposed quote from the Pátra: "Those who have not survived cannot create".
